Tristan Penland joins Square Pegs as the Information Technology & Scheduling Manager, bringing a unique blend of technical expertise and hands-on experience. With a background that spans various industries, including telecommunications, music, and corrections, Tristan’s diverse career has made him a perfect fit for our team. His role here includes overseeing the security of student laptops, managing IT infrastructure, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across all systems. Additionally, Tristan manages the RBT and student scheduling, balancing both the technical and logistical needs of the organization.
Tristan’s professional journey started as a Field Service Technician for T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon, where he spent a year programming cell phone towers in the Midwest. From there, he shifted gears and worked for Taylor Guitars, where he built custom guitars for iconic artists, including Jason Mraz, Zac Brown Band, Taylor Swift, and Billie Eilish. He also served as an Army Veteran and as a Correctional Officer for the State of Florida. Throughout all of these roles, Tristan developed a knack for problem-solving and a calm, methodical approach to complex challenges. His passion for technology was evident from a young age, earning 1st place in web design competitions in high school and even placing 8th nationally.
"I'm excited to be part of Square Pegs and help keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. Whether it’s fixing a computer or managing the schedule, I’m glad to contribute to an organization that does such meaningful work."
When he’s not solving IT puzzles, Tristan is hanging out with his two dogs, Anakin and Obi-Wan—who, true to their names, are either causing chaos or being the best sidekicks ever. Whether it’s a trip to the dog park or a Star Wars movie night, they’re always close by. He’s also been playing guitar for over 12 years, proving that even though he no longer builds them, he can still make them sing. With his quick wit, tech know-how, and ability to keep things running (even when technology doesn’t want to cooperate), Tristan is a fantastic addition to the Square Pegs leadership team.
